Johnny Flynns Path to The NBA Draft
61Time as an Syracuse Orangeman
Johnny Flynn is probably the best point guard in this years 2009 NBA Draft with his rare ability to play at the speed of sound while being totally under control. He uses that control and speed to give opposing defenders nightmares as he will right by you and then slam one home right in your face. Before Flynn was trying to make his big jump to the NBA he was playing for Syracuse in the Big East Conference were he broke Carmelo Anthony's freshman record of most points scored in a game with a 28 point outing. After that first game he went on to have great freshman season averaging 15.7 ppg, 5.3 apg and then an even better sophomore season with 17.4 ppg, 6.7 apg. NBA scouts have been talking Flynn for a long time even before he got to Syracuse, but they started talking lottery after the Big East Tournament Quarterfinal game which pitted Syracuse v. UConn in a game that mad history with 6 overtimes where Flynn had 34 points and 11 assists.
Pre Draft Training
After Flynn and his Syracuse Orange men were knocked out of the NCAA Tournament by Blake Griffin and the Oklahoma Sooners. Flynn set his sights out for the NBA Draft so he called on Tim Grover and Mike Procopio of Attack Athletics in Chicago to prepare him for pre draft workouts and the nba pre draft combine. There Flynn would put in two a days doing skills sessions in the morning strength training in the afternoon then more skills work later on. Each day he spent time on learning pick & roll situations, how to make contact in order to get were you want, and most of all how to adjust to the speed of the pro game. All this knowing that he was preparing for the journey of his life.
NBA Pre Draft Combine & Pre Draft Workouts
When Tim Grover's training was concluded it was time for the NBA Pre Draft Combine Flynn competed in a multitude of drills in front of nba scouts. From there it was on to the team workouts which had Flynn traveling non stop every week up until the draft playing against other top draft prospects in hopes of impressing each team with his ability hoping to be picked in this years NBA Draft.
